Barrie to launch Text with 9‑1‑1 service for people with hearing disabilities

BARRIE, ON: People who are deaf or hard of hearing will soon be able to communicate with Barrie’s 911 call center by Text with 911 or T911 service in Barrie on November 10.

Text with 9-1-1 servicesT911 will add to existing services for people who currently use Teletypewriter (TTY) and Bell Relay.

T911 provides Barrie’s emergency call center staff with the ability to communicate with People who are deaf or hard of hearing using text messaging during an emergency.

The City of Barrie will be reaching out to community groups, including the Canadian Hearing Society and Deaf Access Simcoe Muskoka in the coming weeks to provide information about the service.
