A seminar organised by the Gozo Federation Persons with Disability on `Accessibility in Our Localities,’ took place on Thursday at the Centre of the Gozo Association for the Deaf.
A feature showing accessibility for persons with different types of disabilities in some of the villages in Gozo was shown open the seminar. This feature was produced by CVC Productions. Architect Edward Xerri expanded on this feature by explaining how various localities achieved local projects while taking into consideration disability issues regarding accessibility. The seminar programme was further enhanced by interventions of personal experiences from persons with disabilities.
The panel was made up by the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo, Parliamentary Secretary Dr Justyne Caruana, H.E.Bishop Mario Grech and Shadow Minister for Gozo Dr. Chris Said. They all delivered special messages for the occasion. This part of the programmed was conducted by Ms Maryrose Attard from the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The climax of the program, which also brought the seminar to an end, was a very animated discussion where participants from the audience raised various accessibility issues and made suggestions.
The Gozo Federation Persons with Disability gave thanks to all those who attended the event. It said that “participants raised very interesting points on the topic chosen for discussion, i.e. accessibility for persons with disabilities within Gozitan localities.”
The Federation concluded by saying that it “undertakes to follow up on these points with the authorities present at the event in order to see that action is taken.”
