New disability definition model to be introduced in Armenia
Europe, September 2 2016
YEREVAN: Persons with disabilities are full members of the society, and the works with them must be continuous, Armen Soghoyan, head of the Medical and Social Expertise Agency of the Armenian Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, said, “Armenpress” reported.
“We should not forget about them, rather it is necessary to make needs assessment and provide appropriate services. Now we are at a very important stage which is the preparation of the reforms process. The talk is about the introduction of a new model of the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) disability definition in Armenia which aims to assess citizens’ real needs and provide respective services. We expect greater involvement of people receiving services within the framework of the reforms”, he said.
He said the works towards the introduction of a new model will launch in 2017, and on October 20-21, 2016 “Prior to the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” international conference will be held in Armenia in participation with the representatives of the World Health Organization, the International Labour Organization and other states which is directed towards the exchange of experience in the reforms process.
He also clarified that there is no concrete disease by which the person can be recognized as disabled. It depends on the severity of the disease.
