Make stations accessible for persons with disabilities: HC
Asia-Pacific, September 2 2016
MUMBAI, INDIA: The Bombay high court on Tuesday issued an ultimatum to the railways to provide amenities for persons with disabilities on Mumbai’s suburban stations.
Hearing a PIL filed by an NGO, the court categorically told the railways it would have to either appoint an independent auditor to conduct an access audit or comply with the petitioner’s suggestions.
Seeking the response of the railways, the judges said even if there is “One percent” non-compliance it would issue contempt notices to the general managers of WR and CR. The railways has opposed appointment of an independent auditor.
