DUBAI: Al Noor Training Centre for Childen with Special Needs has announced that it will, next month, organise a two-day exhibition to highlight the importance of Assistive Technology (AT) in the field of education and training in the day-to-day lives of children with disabilities.
The first ever expo, titled: “Windows 10 presents Al Noor Assistive Tech-X 2015”, is a two-day long event that seeks to create awareness on how assistive technology can improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities and empower them to reach their highest potential.
During a press conference held at its premises on Tuesday, the importance and details of the event were unveiled. The media briefing was attended by Khaled Al Halyan, chairman of Al Noor Training Centre, Mohammed Arif, Windows Business Group Lead, Microsoft Gulf, Isphana Al Khatib, director Al Noor Training Centre and Maya Hojeij, the Editor-in-Chief and presenter of #Mal programme on Dubai TV, and an instructor at the American University in Dubai.
The event scheduled to take place at Al Noor Indoor Sports Auditorium (ANISA) on Nov.12 – 13 will be held under the under the patronage of Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The officials highlighted the objective of the event to enlighten the community and members of the corporate world about Al Noor Assistive TechX 2015 in a bid to merge the two forces for the noble cause.
Al Halyan appealed to the community to be part of the event and develop awareness about the importance of AT, a powerful means to revolutionise the lives of individuals with disabilities. He stated that the government is vigorously supporting the cause of people with disabilities in the region. “It is now time for the community and members of the corporate world to come together and integrate people with disabilities into the mainstream society. This can only be achieved through raising awareness,” he said.
Mohammed Arif, Windows Business Group Lead, Microsoft Gulf, said, “At Microsoft, we believe in empowering every person to do more with less. Expressing enthusiasm about the initiative, Isphana Al Khatib, director, Al Noor Training Centre, said, “We are looking at creating a well-structured and organised opportunity, through this event, for all the stakeholders – our children and their families, professionals in the field, manufacturers and suppliers of AT equipment, and most significantly the community at large. We want this lot to be appropriately aware, connected, informed and educated about the manifold benefits and advantages of Assistive Technology. Hojeij, who was the official moderator of the press conference, revealed her experience and involvement with the cause, throwing light on the initiative taken up by Al Noor Training Centre.
Meanwhile, a number of prominent firms will showcase their latest products and a number of experts in the field will deliver a series of lectures.
