The meeting was organized, on September 23, with the participation of representatives of several countries and civil society organizations, on the theme “The Way Forward: A Disability Inclusive Development Agenda Towards 2015 and Beyond”

“Disability inclusive development is not a luxury nor a privilege,” said General Assembly President John Ashe. “It is a right that all human kind must embrace.”

“The High Level Meeting was a landmark opportunity to ensure that new poverty reduction goals and strategies are developed that include appropriate targets that will address poverty reduction for persons with disabilities.  Some of those strategies include targeted goals for requirements for accessible infrastructures, access to information and transportation and inclusive disaster risk reduction.” said Past President, Betty Dion, GAATES
