University students visit historical sites to assess accessibility in Malta
Europe, April 15 2013
MALTA: Around 70 University students reading for their Diploma in Facilitating Inclusive Education at the Gozo Campus recently visited various historical places in Gozo.
The students, already working as learning support assistants, visited historical sites and museums at the Citadel and Xagħra to assess physical and information accessibility for people with intellectual and other sensory disabilities.
April 2 was World Autism Awareness Day and all participants wore ribbons with colors symbolizing the puzzle of autism. Some of the students are also working on resources that would help parents and educators prepare autism students for such visits.
The visit was organized by course co-ordinator Elena Tanti Burlo and Ninette Sammut of Heritage Malta.
