Cornwall offers beginners basic skills of British Sign Language course
Europe, August 31 2012
The Cornwall Deaf Centre in Camborne is offering Level 1 and 2 British Sign Language courses from September.
The courses are designed to teach a basic ability to communicate with deaf people, learn about the deaf community and deaf culture.
Students will learn to converse with a deaf person using basic sign language, sign a short passage relevant to a personal interest, tell a story in sign language, finger-spell names and places, recognise variations in the way people who are deaf communicate and understand signed stories.
BSL Level 1 will start on September 25 from 7pm to 9pm and will last for 25 weeks. BSL Level 2 will start on September 27 from 7pm and 9pm and again will run for 25 weeks.
Each course costs £200, plus the examination fee of £80. Concessions are available to people on benefits, under 18 or in full-time education and for those aged 65 and over.
