Bahrain’s Ministry of Human Rights and Social Development opens training session on UNCRPD

MANAMA: Minister of Human Rights and Social Development Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al-Balushi patronized the training session on the preparation of reports in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), within the program of the implementation of the national plan and strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Bahrain and the Supreme Committee for Disabled affairs (SCDA) and the Gulf Disability Society (GDS).

Dr. Al-Balushi explained the session aims to impart the participants with the methodological skills in preparing the national reports on the rights of persons with disabilities and familiarize them with the States’ obligations on the rights of persons with disabilities, and to explain means of forming a national committee to monitor and follow-up to the implementation of the articles of the international convention and stand on the mechanisms and criteria and methodologies on ways of preparing the national reports.

The Minister added in September 2011, the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability received the consent of his Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Shura Council and the House of Representatives, which is the first agreement of its kind in the 21 century, which legally obliges the State to comprehensively provide protection and services for persons with disabilities to enjoy a true equality in the community.
