KUWAIT: People with disabilities need access to facilities and services that are guaranteed by International Law and agreements, Secretary-General of the Kuwait Society of the Disabled, Munira Al-Mutawa stressed on Sunday.
In a press statement, Al-Mutawa carified that article 9 of UN CRPD, concerned with people with disabilities, stresses the importance of enabling “persons with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in all aspects of life.
Appropriate measures should be taken to ensure to persons with disabilities access, on an equal basis with others, to the physical environment, to transportation, to information and communications, including information and communications technologies and systems, and to other facilities and services open or provided to the public.”
Al-Mutawa noted that a committee has been formed to fund and set up such project in Kuwait to implement this accessibility law to make life easier for people with disabilities.
Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, Ministry of Public Works, and Kuwait and Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development will be part of this project, she noted.
