DPWH-8 hosts orientation Seminar on Accessibility Law

Tacloban City, Leyte, Philippines: The Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office No. VIII in coordination with the 4th Leyte Engineering District (LED), and the Ormoc City Engineering District recently hosted an Orientation/Seminar on Accessibility Law or Batasang Pambansa Bilang 344.
More than 60 participants coming from the private and public sector joined the said seminar wherein the discussions were centered on the implementing rules and regulations relative to the Accessibility Law.
The Law aims to enhance the mobility of persons with disabilities by requiring owners or operators of a building establishments, contractor, architect, engineer, building official, or other public official who is in-charge with the issuance of building permits, registrations, certification and/or inspection of the building, establishment or structure to install facilities and other devices which will enable persons with disabilities to have access to them.
It is required that in case of government buildings, streets and highways, DPWH shall see to it that the same shall be provided with architectural facilities or structural features for persons with disabilities.
Meanwhile, aside from the orientation/seminar on the Accessibility Law, the DPWH 4th LED personnel through the leadership of District Engineer Lino Francisco C. Gonzales conducted a coastal clean-up activity last September 17, 2011.
